finding your moat

we all have been using extensively ai for coding and it has been amazing so far i hope it is for you aswell.

the pace has never been this exponential. we see 100s of products every single day coming into market. i thought about it lately quite a lot lately. me (software engineer, ai engineer) i am offshoring my most of my coding task to ai and i have that now hollow space in time left yes i do code review yes i do architecture design but for a small feature this can be done by ai, quite fast and efficient. yes, ai still needs and extensive review on its code but what i am trying to say here is, ai will be 100x better in next 2 years in coding

I ponder upon this question now, what is my moat here? was coding truly my moat? yes it was but now coding is getting commoditized and it gets very hard leverage out of commodotized thing.

i think what we need to rethink here, coding was not only your true moat. It was your system thinking, your approach, your taste and your ideas.

ai is enabling everyone to be builder and generalist are shining. Try to see this pov as a non dev (if you are) here, who are shipping products faster? its the solo founders who might not be completely technical (mostly) – arguable.

So the technical barrier is removed, anybody can build now. Product managers are happier than ever they will shine more in this building war phase ( I call this AI phase as building war phase). AI is forcing builders to be generalist.

Again, we all are slowly becoming PMs ourselves interms of coding. But, the catch here will be since everyone is building and shipping the product but the law of nature or law of war is, there can be only 1 winner right so who is the winner in this building war phase and what differentiate between winners and loosers?

I want to mention few things first, yes ai has enabled everyone to build things faster but it comes with its own cons. If you see people are shipping random things random features. It is creating clutter more precisely feature clutter. Its like a child getting a flying carpet who dont know how it use it properly. I think its also because of this transition period, we got this super power all of a sudden and we are not able to comprehend on how to use it and understand it truly.

Heres, comes the catch, i think this will just create chaos and clutterness. So my main question is what really differentiate between winners and loosers?

it has to be the taste and distribution. See understanding what truly is needed and what feature exactly has the higest impact on user will be the main differentiating factor in this building war phase. taste cannot be commoditized

Lets understand distribution, look everyone is building products right? but has your product has reached to user? has your product actually made any impact to your end user?

these are the questions that will tell a lot about your position. primary focus should be on distribution aswell.

Theres a saying " what is this earth without art? just a solid rock"

this make sense now, your taste is your art now and its hard for anyone to copy your taste let alone ai.
